I agree with Karl Popper’s “Three Worlds” theory. According to Popper’s definition of the three different worlds, I believe social media should belong to both psychology world (world two) and world of the products of the human mind (world three). Reasons are discussed as follows.
Firstly, social media provides a platform for people to express feelings, share thoughts and exchange perceptions. As mental thoughts can be communicated on different social media, it can be regarded as a world of psychological processes.
While in the meantime, human languages are the indispensable channels for people to express their ideas on social media. Also, songs, paintings and videos are frequently shared online with the development of science and technology. Therefore, social media can be defined as a world of the human mind from this sense.
In conclusion, I truly believe Popper’s idea. Social media belongs to the world that reflects both mental process and human mind.
Very unique idea about social media, but I slightly disagree with some of that. Maybe we can have a discussion about it late~

Well, I am confused that you think social media belongs to world two. In world two, all the things just exist in our mind. I remember there is a example that sculptures and paintings also belong to world three. I think that is same with social media, which has a physical body but contains opinions in mental world.

You tried to prove that social media belongs to both World 2 and World 3. However, I don’t think social media should be classified to World 2, the world of human mind. In your argument, you take feelings and thoughts as evidence. But actually, when you express your feelings and thoughts, you use the form of language, which is the human mind product belonging to World 3. So it makes no sense to use feelings and thoughts to support the idea that social media belongs to World 2.

I also got a little confused about your idea that social media belong to both world 2 and world three. It is definite that social media consist of products of human minds, but how come that social media also include mental elements? As you mentioned in your blog, “social media provides a platform for people to express feelings, share thoughts and exchange perceptions”, I would agree more on that people share mental ideas through physical network, it is a obvious a kind of products of human mind. Thus, belonging to world 3. Hope to get your reply.
